What's on this September in the Bend!

We are still in Waring Wombat Season. The days are short and cold and the fleeting forms of orchids found in the Bend bring so much joy. We hope you are enjoying them as now Poorneet is upon us : the Tadpole season! In this special season watch out for the flax-lilies flowering, and know that the tadpoles are moving through the waters with our new generation of frogs. In the trees you can hear the haunting calls of the Currawong as they return, heralding rainfall with their calls. The temperature gently rises and the day and night approaches equal length  Watch out for the flowering of Murnong Daisy, an indication that the tubers are ready for eating for Wurrundjeri people. What other seasonal markers are you seeing? And are the weeds giving you a run for your money? 

The Bird Survey  is a long standing data gathering process. Birds are key indicators of habitat health. Bird language speaks for the whole bush, conveying predators and peaceful times. Bird Survey occurs on Sunday the 13th of September 8:00am, and requires you to bring binoculars and observe species to make a record of numbers. Cafe Benders meets again Sat 19th 10 am - 1 pm, with their fantastic fair of wonderful cakes, crystalised community and divine coffee. Be a sport, go along, bring all your change and all the kids, have a yarn to support the essential best things in life.

Our ELZ is 'orchid rich', although it takes a lot of searching to appreciate the full extent of this richness. Most species only appear for a fleeting few weeks a year, so now is the perfect time to explore these delicate wonders. Come along to this year's
